I want to read faster.
I really have a hard time reading; I read slowly and I feel self-conscious reading in front of others. My homework always takes me twice as long as my friends to complete. I constantly fall behind in class because I need more time to comprehend text in front of me. I am not a good writer. I feel like my grammar skills are bad and I need more time than others to write.
I am an Alpha Scholar.
Being dyslexic does not mean that I am not as smart as my classmates; it means that I learn differently. Being a slow reader means that I am a more detailed reader and that I put more effort towards what I read and write. I learned how to embrace this as a strength and discovered structuring and pacing strategies that help me to be more efficient. I view reading as the same as eating bacon, I tear away the fat and focus on the delicious meat. Using structuring strategies to read faster has helped me to understand grammar and sentence structure. Not only do I read faster and write better, but I am also a more eloquent speaker.
