I struggled with math all throughout 6th and 7th grade. Pre-algebra and algebra just seemed so tough for me that I began to think that math was just not my thing. After entering Alpha Scholar's Math Ladder Classes, I began to realize that I wasn't the problem, but how I was learning math was.
Through my Academic Prescription, I discovered that I am an abstract thinker and had not fully developed fundamental skills and concepts that I need to be successful in my current math classes. I also learned that the common core math curriculum that I had been exposed to in my elementary school classes was not right for me and my learning style.
In my Math Ladder class, I learned to process and solve core operations faster and with more confidence. I my teacher taught me strategies that would allow me to be a more literal abstract thinker. It felt like math was adapting to me! In no time, I was caught up to speed in my math class and excelling in algebra. Now I can't wait for calculus!
